…all that

The Great Charter of the Liberties of England, also known as the Magna Carta was sealed in a field about 20 miles to the west of the City in 1215 by King John. A key moment in England’s history, but not just in England’s – if you live in a Commonwealth country or the USA there are clauses in the Magna Carta that are the foundation of the laws of your land. But what led up to it?

Who were the Barons? Were they bad or was King John?

Where did the French King and the Pope come into it?

And, what about the poached egg?

Answers to all of these questions and more are to be found on the City’s streets where much of the drama took place.

Did you know?

King John is said to have died because he gorged himself on peaches.
